Tip
of the Week from our HomeCare Almanac
In
1878, Vaseline was trademarked. Since then, people have found thousands
of great uses for the stuff, Here are a few of our favorites.
Protect
your hands before painting, working in the garden, under the car or anywhere
else where you will be getting greasy and grimy, by coating your hands with
a thin layer of petroleum jelly. Dirt and grease will just wipe right off
when you are finished making your mess.
It
makes a super lubricant for tough nuts and bolts, noisy hinges and other
moving parts that squeak or don't move at all.
Put
a bit around the threads of an outdoor light bulb before screwing it in
to make it easier to remove when when it needs to be replaced.
Put
a little around the lids of metal cans before screwing the lids on. It will
make unscrewing them easier later as well as give you a better seal now.
Put
a dab or two on the inside edge of the top of your paint can lid so that
when you push it into the rim of the can, the Vaseline will give you an
air-tight seal that will still come off when you are ready to paint some
more.
Smear
some on the joints of your P-traps under your sinks to seal them up good
and tight and help prevent water leaks. |
